Good news for Facebook users who are also fans of privacy: It's official?Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed Facebook has settled with the FTC and is now required to make all future privacy changes opt-in.
Facebook has been notorious for its confusing maze of privacy options, which is why there's a need for an always up-to-date guide to managing your Facebook privacy. The FTC took Facebook to task on eight counts of privacy violations, including changing information users set as private to public without any warning and still allowing access to photos and videos even after users deleted their Facebook accounts.
With the new settlement, Facebook will be required to get users' express consent before their information is shared beyond the privacy settings they've established and before making changes that override their privacy preferences. Facebook is also "barred from making misrepresentations about the privacy or security of consumers' personal information" and submit to independent, third-party privacy audits.
